Free Mental Health Training in August

Mental health issues are more prevalent than ever in Wood Buffalo and together, there is an opportunity for us to learn skills on how to support and strengthen everyone who lives here. Some Other Solutions is pleased to offer a free mental health training program, designed to help people learn and develop those important skills needed to connect with others and provide support in times of need.

A condensed version of the full Community Helpers program being offered this August still covers a wide range of important topics that are essential for anyone looking to make a positive impact in the community. From understanding mental health awareness and the signs of suicide, to learning how to cope with stress and grief, this training program covers an overview of key issues that can affect someone’s mental well-being.

What’s covered in training

Mental health awareness is one of the key topics covered in the upcoming August session. By increasing awareness and understanding of mental health issues, we can better recognize when someone may be struggling and offer support in a compassionate and effective way.

Stress and coping mechanisms will also be discussed, as well as how to navigate feelings of grief and loss. Additionally, participants will learn about the use, misuse, and addictions related to substances, and how to support individuals who may be struggling with addiction.

Lastly, the program covers how to respond in a crisis situation, offering practical advice on how to provide immediate support and connect individuals with the appropriate resources.

While a certificate will not be provided at the end of the training, participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills that can be applied in their everyday lives to make a positive impact in our community. .
