Introducing the new Board Chair for SOS

Trevor Salisbury is on a mission to spread awareness about the importance of mental health at work and in his new role at Some Other Solutions (SOS), he’s got the backing of an entire organization to support his efforts.

After four years on the Board at SOS, Salisbury is stepping into the role of Board Chair for the non-profit organization that has been operating in Wood Buffalo since 1986. The Board is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the organization, establishing partnerships and educating the community about the importance of mental health.

Salisbury is working hard at his day job with Finning Canada to normalize the conversation around mental health.

“Mental health is one of the biggest things impacting our society right now; we need to be comfortable speaking about it. It’s a normal topic to speak about.”

From an SOS perspective, Salisbury wants to forge stronger connections with the organization and industry, spreading further into the surrounding rural areas. With so many individuals and families coming up to Fort McMurray to work for blocks at a time, they may not have the same access to mental health supports that they would in their home community. Salisbury wants to bring SOS to the conversation with these companies and help fill a gap in support.
